Gretchen Kimball and Connie Wiley were the hosts with the most on October 30, when they threw an intimate soiree to celebrate the latest book from Paige Peterson. Held at a residence nestled by the beautiful Belvedere Lagoon, The Secret Garden book party gave guests an early glimpse of the newly updated and illustrated children’s classic.
Along with her creative partner Jesse Kornbluth, Peterson has abridged the novel and provided illustrations in her signature evocative style. Originally 80,000 words, Paige and Jesse abridged The Secret Garden to 35,000 words, and Paige produced colorful images to enhance the story. This is the third collaboration for the duo, who previously gave similar updates to the beloved children’s stories A Christmas Carol and Black Beauty. Paige Peterson is also the author of Growing Up Belvedere-Tiburon, and the co-author and illustrator of Blackie: The Horse Who Stood Still. Book Passage stores in San Francisco and Corte Madera will exclusively carry these new editions of The Secret Garden, A Christmas Carol and Black Beauty.
