La Discothèque; A Belvedere Hawthorne Nursery School Fundraiser

A Small School Providing Many Generations of Education

Parents gathered for a lavish 70’s themed event to raise money for the oldest nursery school in Southern Marin. The event, taking place at a private residence in Tiburon, was sponsored and organized by The Tolson Family, a current family at the school. Entertainment included a live music performance by The Bay Area Bee Gees, DJ and music producer Anna Dubowick, DJ and music producer Yuka Yu, and many entertainment highlights on multiple levels with a special performance by Precise Entertainment Break Dancers, a lively dance floor, multiple bars serviced by On The Rocks SF, 70’s inspired hors d’oeuvres provided by A Plus Catering, various photobooths, custom themed gift boxes that matched formal invitations, cheese and chocolate fondue fountains, and even a ring for champagne window, with aesthetics of the stylish event advised by MAS Design. Attendees included parents and school board members, such as Myka Keil and Vanessa Snyder, as well as many alumni parents, such as Russ Keil and Arne Morkemo, who were once students at the school themselves, and now have children attending the school. Also in attendance were many notable locals, such as Trip Adler, Silvija Martincevic, Renzo and Crystal Azzarello, and Petra Bergstein-Higby and Alex Higby. Tickets to the event were made available for purchase at the annual BHNS Fall Cocktail Party, which took place and was generously sponsored by Sam’s Anchor Cafe, a strong supporter of the local community. The event showcases the strong efforts of parents at the school to raise money as a community for a small school, located in the Belvedere Tiburon enclave, that has provided education through multiple generations.

Proceeds of the event fund the school’s mission to continue to be a parent-led school, owned and operated by parents who have children attending the school, with program directors and the executive director overseeing the organization as a whole. The executive director, Kathleen Parker, who was once a student at the school herself, has been an integral role over the years, ensuring that all the teachers at BHNS are highly qualified and trained in early childhood education, and has led the school for over 20 years.
