Unlock the Legendary Taste of Howell Mountain at ADAMVS

As with nature, great Cabernet Sauvignon is an expression of many elements working in harmony.

Owners of ADAMVS, Denise and Stephen Adams bring their passion for winemaking to the Napa Valley. Latin for “borne from our red earth,” ADAMVS offers an excellent blend of geology and geography.

Their 80-acre Howell Mountain estate boasts ten small vineyard blocks, all biodynamically farmed. This dedicated and meticulous process weaves together a vibrant tapestry of elements, providing the perfect foundation for crafting exceptional wines. This is not new territory for the couple who own historic Château Fonplégade in the legendary Saint-Émilion wine region of Bordeaux.

Denise’s passion for farming runs through her veins, creating a profound bond with the earth and its abundant offerings. As an owner, she immerses herself in every aspect of winemaking, from managing the vineyard to overseeing the daily operations.

With her small, dedicated team, Denise is committed to quality and sustainability.

Denise’s grandfather instilled in her a love for vegetable gardening and she sees vineyards as one big vegetable garden.

ADAMVS offers a memorable tasting experience. Guests get to meet the team, tour the vineyard and enjoy both wine and culinary delicacies hosted in the Cypress House or Wine Library.

Designed by architect Kurt Melander and crafted to perfection under the artful direction of Denise, these impressive structures beautifully incorporate cypress, glass, steel, and concrete.

Why is a Visit to ADAMVS so Worthwhile?

Denise Adams: Our mountain estate has always been an ideal setting for wine tastings.

Visits are by appointment only, which allows our team to pay special attention to every guest — and to get to know them and their tastes before they arrive — for an experience that feels bespoke.

Sense of place is so important, and we have the privilege of being able to express that here in so many ways.

Our method of farming extends beyond the soils, vines, and orchards to every aspect of the property, ensuring a vibrant ecosystem in harmony with its community and environment. The property features bluebird boxes and hawk perches, an extensive insectary, and free-range chicken and sheep.

What is the core philosophy at ADAMVS?

Denise Adams: Our winemaking approach has three core goals: to allow our vineyard to express its own authentic voice, to respect the diversity of the land, and to achieve our wines’ fullest potential.

Farming practices at ADAMVS are certified both organic and biodynamic. Our plots are farmed entirely by hand, vine by vine, focusing on a meticulous and thoughtful process from beginning to end.

We believe that each vine, like every person, is unique and requires special care.

“When creating a distinctive wine, our team shares a passion for organic and biodynamic farming and appreciates the remarkable characteristics of the Howell Mountain terroir.”
