Claremont Resort & Club is a historical gem. Founded in 1915, the 22-acre resort offers commanding views that stretch across San Francisco to the iconic Golden Gate Bridge.
From your hilltop perch, you can jet off to see the sights in and around San Francisco, including wine country, only 45 minutes away, or simply stay on the premises and enjoy a spa day, tennis and pickleball, or a personal wellness retreat. The resort is big, with lots of areas to explore.

History
Originally owned by William Thornburg, it was sold to John Ballard who lived on the property with his family until a wildfire swept through in 1901. It was then sold to a group of investors in 1905, who ultimately built the “white castle on the hills” over the span of 10 years until its opening in 1915.
Claremont Resort & Club has a storied past, providing a nice balance between historical ambiance and homelike comfort. The hotel has 276 rooms and suites – definitely splurge on one with a view.

Dining
Start your morning at East Bay Provisions, which delivers coffee, housemade pastries, and other breakfast items.

You can also take advantage of the lovely views and outdoor dining at Limewood Bar and Restaurant, where Chef Joseph Paire serves breakfast, brunch, lunch, and dinner. Popular menu items at Limewood include the Steak Sliders, Berkeley Smash Burger and Buttermilk Fried Chicken & Skillet Pancake.

Visit their historic Lobby Lounge for light bites, local craft beer, wine and craft cocktails. Try a Garden Bliss with St. George terroir gin, nasturtium syrup, lemon, egg whites, edible flowers or their Claremont Sunshine with Grey goose vodka, lime juice, mango puree, jalapeños, and tabasco. Whether for a nightcap or gathering with friends, savor champagne while soaking in stunning San Francisco Bay views.

The Wellness Connection
The Club at the Claremont is your nexus for all things health and wellness, and there’s a great selection to suit your tastes. For the swimmers among you, casual or competitive, take advantage of the resort’s three outdoor pools. The club offers private lessons, and there’s the Streamliners Swim Team.

If racket sports are your sweet spot, the club has eight, lighted outdoor tennis courts, plus four adjacent pickleball courts.
From there, the club provides a bevy of fitness classes: yoga, Pilates, cycling and more. Or take advantage of the fitness center, with a full free-weight gym. Afterwards, enjoy the sauna, steam room or whirlpool.

For that extra pampering, the Spa at Claremont offers 32 treatment rooms and an extensive treatment menu.
The Claremont Resort & Club boasts a fascinating origin story rooted in California’s vibrant history. Beyond its historical allure, it feels like its own city on the hill, with numerous opportunities to relax and enjoy the locale.
