For the second year, San Francisco Art Week mounted a nine-day citywide celebration of art and artists, bringing together art lovers, gallerists and creatives in a series of accessible events around the Bay Area. On January 18, the whole thing kicked off with an opening party at the Institute of Contemporary Art San Francisco’s new downtown location on Montgomery Street. Eager guests lined up around the block to be the first to enjoy this year’s artistic events.
As guests settled in with beats by DJ Marcus Rosario (aka Mawkus of KALW), they enjoyed drinks courtesy of Rye on the Road and Best Day Brewing Company, while taking in the ICA’s newly opened inaugural exhibitions. VIP guest Mayor Daniel Lurie gave remarks about the importance of art in San Francisco’s civic life. Saying that the future of San Francisco “starts with our arts” he added, “We, the artists, the innovators, the entrepreneurs, get to decide what our fate is and how we define ourselves.”
SF Art Week seeks to foster new, and strengthen existing, connections between art lovers and collectors, galleries, museums, organizations and artists through organizing an accessible and inclusive platform to showcase established and emerging artists.
