The Exploratorium’s annual family fundraising event, Wonder Funday, took place on October 6. The event offered up an epic playdate by the Bay, where guests could explore the marine biome under the museum, aided by staff scientists, and engage in hands-on activities throughout the day.
The fun got started with a reception in the Fisher Bay Observatory and bay-centric activities in the museum galleries. Families got up close and personal with sea anemones, starfish and hermit crabs, which had been collected on the California coast by the Exploratorium’s biologists. Children got to make and take home several creations like sand slime led by Maker Studio Kidz, kelp pressing and tataki zomé, all wrapped up in their own special Wonder Funday tote bag.
Also featured at the event were Exhiblets—mini-exhibits which have been created for the Exploratorium’s community partners. Over 250 guests were on hand that day, and their participation helped support the Exploratorium’s many enrichment programs, including field trips, Community Science Workshops and Community Family Passes, which provide free admission to families around the Bay Area.
