Leslie Sbrocco, the beloved host of KQED’s long-running show Check, Please! Bay Area, was sainted by the Sisters of Perpetual Indulgence on August 30, 2024, at the San Francisco social club The Academy SF. The event, presented by the San Francisco Bay Times and The Academy SF, was part of the monthly Divas & Drinks @ The Academy series.
The Sisters honored Sbrocco for promoting more San Francisco Bay Area small businesses than any other local major market television host, for her staunch LGBTQ+ allyship (her daughter Grace is out and proud), and for her tireless fundraising for cancer research. Sbrocco, who is today a self-described “cancer thriver,” is working to have a positive impact on the causes she cares about most.
The event kicked off with a welcome from emcee Donna Sachet. Sister Roma also greeted guests and introduced Sister Merry Peter, who conducted the sainting ceremony. The pair proclaimed Sbrocco as “Saint Leslie of the Bounteous Table and Joyful Sip!” with a nod to Sbrocco’s popular restaurant-themed show and her acclaimed work as wine consultant.
Entertainment was provided by Sachet, singer and former Beach Blanket Babylon star Renée Lubin accompanied by Dr. Dee Spencer, Mike Wong and members of the San Francisco Pride Band, and DJ Rockaway and DJ Olga T presented by Oliva Travel.
