Pianist Yuja Wang Headlines San Francisco Symphony’s Season Opening Gala

The San Francisco Symphony launched its 2025-26 season in spectacular fashion on September 12, as superstar pianist Yuja Wang delivered a virtuosic performance of Tchaikovsky’s Piano Concerto No. 1 under guest conductor Jaap van Zweden’s baton at Davies Symphony Hall. The Opening Gala program also featured Bay Area composer John Adams’ thrilling “Short Ride in a Fast Machine” and Respighi’s majestic “Pines of Rome,” creating an evening that perfectly captured the orchestra’s commitment to artistic excellence and innovative programming.

The elegant celebration began with a preconcert lobby reception featuring McCalls Catering and Events’ delectable bites and sophisticated sips, while VIP sponsors enjoyed an exclusive cocktail reception before the seated dinner in Zellerbach Rehearsal Hall. The event’s host committee welcomed guests for an evening enhanced by Got Light’s lighting design and Yuki Izumihara’s projection artistry. Presenting sponsor Zenni Optical joined in-kind supporters Chandon, Junipero Gin, Old Potrero Rye and The Caviar Co. for a celebration where proceeds directly benefit the Symphony’s acclaimed education and community programs, which serve tens of thousands throughout the Bay Area each year, continuing the orchestra’s 114-year tradition of shaping the cultural fabric of San Francisco and beyond.
