San Francisco’s culinary community reached a delicious milestone on August 19, as the Toast & Taste benefit celebrated its anniversary at Chotto Matte, a Peruvian-Japanese fusion restaurant. The evening raised over $45,000 for Compass Family Services, with more than 280 guests turning out to savor the city’s finest flavors, provided by an array of SF’s trendiest dining spots. Hosted by the San Francisco Private Dining Venues (SFPDV), the annual celebration brought together Compass Family Services and Chotto Matte representatives for an evening that perfectly captured restaurant founder Kurt Zdesar’s philosophy that “true hospitality transcends the dining experience—it’s about nurturing community and embracing generosity.”
It was an exciting, high-energy night thanks to drag queens Camille Tow and Trashleigh Teese, whose witty emcee performances had guests roaring with laughter between bites of Copra’s thayir chaat with green grapes and date chutney and hiyashi soba noodles with miso sesame dressing from Ozumo. SFPDV Board President Michelle Cheng and Board Secretary Velvet Conley watched their decade-long vision unfold across Chotto Matte’s glamorous lounge space and stunning rooftop patio, where guests bid on over 40 silent auction prizes while sampling Dumpling Time’s beef pho xiao long bao and Perbacco’s sweet corn sformatino with shishito pepper relish. This memorable evening brings the event’s total impact to over $473,000, supporting Compass Family Services’ centuries-long mission to help San Francisco families achieve lasting housing stability.
