An Evening of Italian Design and Abstract Expression

In partnership with one of Italy’s most prestigious and historic design brands, Molteni&C, Luminaire hosted an intimate dinner at the Molteni&C flagship showroom in San Francisco on June 5, an evening that blended refined Italian craftsmanship with contemporary art in a celebration of form, emotion, and storytelling.

Co-hosted by Molteni&C and Luminaire, the event was led by special host Billy Zane, acclaimed actor and abstract artist represented by the Loisir Gallery. Zane’s expressive works were exhibited throughout the showroom, inviting guests to engage with art in a setting defined by architectural elegance and thoughtful conversation.

Attendees included Gordon Knox, president of the San Francisco Art Institute; Olivia Hsu Decker, owner of Golden Gate Sotheby’s International Realty and publisher of Haute Living, San Francisco magazine; Adam Routledge, executive director of JPMorgan Private Bank; publisher and philanthropist Iryna Voskerician; and entrepreneur Andrei Karkar.

Guests dined at flower-filled tables as Zane shared reflections on his creative process and the shared sensibilities between collectible design and expressive art. “This was about dissolving the frame—letting art live among objects that are equally sculptural, equally alive,” Zane noted. “It’s in these spaces that new conversations emerge.”

Best known for his roles in Titanic, Twin Peaks, Back to the Future, and the Sniper franchise, Billy Zane has over 120 acting credits to his name. Yet it is the raw authenticity of his paintings, drawings, and photography—exhibited in Los Angeles, London, Milan, Miami, Thessaloniki, and elsewhere—that has earned him increasing critical recognition. His abstract expressionist works are marked by kinetic energy and harmoniously contrasted colors and shaped by a blend of intention and instinct.
