On May 8 music lovers and community-minded supporters met up at The Chapel in San Francisco for a concert with a very special purpose: buidOn’s annual benefit concert to support its community service and school-building projects, both here and abroad. buildOn is a movement that mobilizes communities in low-income countries to build schools, and helps American youth transform their own neighborhoods through service.
The special concert was headlined by Grace Bowers and the Hodge Podge, who amped up the crowd with Bowers’ guitar-driven original songs. The afternoon’s MC, Liam Mayclem, kept the program moving, even acting as the auctioneer for a lively paddle-raise. Guests also got to see a very special performance by two buildOn students, who joined opening band Westerly to perform an original song they wrote together. The performance truly captured the spirit of the evening. The sold-out event raised over $260,000 for buildOn’s community-building and service programs.
