On May 10 San Francisco Ballet School welcomed guests to its annual Spring Festival fundraising dinner and special performance by SF Ballet students. Partygoers were greeted at the War Memorial Opera House with glasses of bubbly at a lively cocktail reception, followed by a sit-down dinner from Global Gourmet, served in the elegant Opera House lobby. Attendees came decked out in their finest spring florals, adding pops of color to the already beautiful tablescapes bursting with purple, green and white blossoms.
The afternoon’s main event was, of course, the dance: attendees were treated to an enchanting student performance, featuring live accompaniment by the Grammy Award-winning San Francisco Ballet Orchestra, and showcasing some of the school’s top talent. The dancers performed a collection of works choreographed by past artistic directors Helgi Tomasson, Michael Smuin and Lew Christensen as well as current director Tamara Rojo. The dazzling show gave students the opportunity to perform world-class repertoire in a historic venue, and gave the audience the chance to experience the next generation of ballet greats. Founded in 1933, San Francisco Ballet School is the oldest professional ballet school in the country. Funds raised at the spring dinner will help support the more than $1.5 million in annual scholarships and financial aid the SF Ballet School provides.
