On a recent sunny spring afternoon, civic leaders and VIPs gathered in Redwood City for an exciting event bursting with civic pride. San Mateo County’s 169th anniversary coincided with the formal dedication of 500 County Center, the most sustainable civic building in the United States. Hosted by San Mateo County Board of Supervisors President David Canepa, in partnership with the San Mateo County History Museum and the Silicon Valley Office of Protocol (SVOP), the evening showcased the power of progress and community spirit.
Upon arrival, guests were welcomed by County Executive Mike Callagy, who opened the dedication ceremony and oversaw the ribbon cutting. The historic event brought together civic leaders, diplomats and community members for an evening of connection and global engagement. “This building is a reflection of who we are and who we aspire to be,” said San Mateo County Board of Supervisors President David Canepa. “It brings the government closer to the people and sets a new national standard for what a civic building can represent.”
