Berkeley Rep hosted their annual Ovation Gala on March 29th at the Ritz-Carlton San Francisco, this year honoring the artistic contributions of acclaimed playwright, actor and singer-songwriter Eisa Davis. The 2025 fundraiser was a particularly starry affair, with Oscar-nominated actor Colman Domingo making a special appearance to contribute a heartfelt speech to Davis, his longtime friend. With a program including live performances of excerpts from Davis’ works and music from a live band, it was a night the lucky attendees won’t soon forget.
The beautiful Ritz-Carlton ballroom formed the glamorous backdrop for a pre-show dinner featuring flat iron steak with chorizo white bean ragu, with the accompanying wines provided by Hafner Vineyard, Kermit Lynch and Palisades Canyon. An auction hosted by Greg Quiroga added some levity, and the evening wrapped up with a surprise for Ms. Davis: a raucous rendition of Earth, Wind, and Fire’s September, one of her favorite songs. Funds raised at this year’s Ovation Gala will support Berkeley Rep’s mission to create ambitious theatre that both entertains and challenges.
