Screening of Biographical Film “God is Good” Hosted by Margaret Liu Collins

On January 18 a preview screening of the new film “God is Good” played to a packed house at the beautiful Herbst Theatre. Based on the true story of local entrepreneur and philanthropist Margaret Liu Collins, the movie is an adaptation of her memoir of the same title. The private screening, attended by family, community members and the film’s cast and crew, was followed up with a fascinating Q&A with the director and actors.

The movie recounts a story similar to Liu Collins’s journey as a first-generation Chinese immigrant woman who overcame cultural bias and sexism. After emigrating from Hong Kong to the United States, lead character “Margaret” must confront traditional family expectations, the cultural divide between East and West and gender inequality. Through resilience and wisdom, Margaret builds a successful career and, guided by her religious faith, achieves personal liberation. The movie highlights the challenges and growth experienced by immigrant women living in America, and the heroine’s journey serves as a powerful example for other women facing similar obstacles.
